GTC, an independent utilities provider, has the dynamic vision to complement Grainger plc’s forward- thinking ideals.

Customer: Grainger, Plc
Sector: Residential, social and commercial
Utilities: Electricity and Gas
The background
When complete, Berewood will consist of 2,550 homes and commercial properties with a mixture of affordable and private homes. The development will include schools, a residential care home, a nursery and further employment opportunities. On the foundation of GTC’s utility infrastructure network, Grainger plc aspires to the highest quality of urban design, creating the physical and social infrastructure needed for a new community, catering for professionals and families.
On this vast 521 acre site, built around the restored River Wallington, Grainger plc is creating a sustainable urban extension to Waterlooville, forming the fourth quadrant in the local council’s Major Development Area (MDA) to be built within a 15 year programme. Experienced in creating exemplar developments, Grainger plc appointed GTC to deliver the core utility infrastructure as an ideal partnership.
To service this new community, GTC has delivered a Medium Pressure (MP) gas mains network and three High Voltage (HV) electricity connections with 18 substations. In addition, GTC has been responsible for the procurement of high-cost offsite infrastructure, offering the customer full transparency on the process.
Grainger plc, one of the top strategic land developers, is instrumental in helping to deliver the Government’s housing target. The GTC product complements Grainger plc’s ability to add essential value to the land deal, whilst offering a superior package of infrastructure benefits to the housebuilder, when buying fully serviced land. GTC’s ‘fully serviced land package’ offers a vital time advantage, allowing the housebuilders to focus on the construction and selling of houses.
“Our approach to the design of the Berewood masterplan has a feeling of the English Garden Suburb Movement, where community well-being is at the heart of our philosophy. With this long-term project we chose GTC to deliver the utility infrastructure, as they can offer us lasting commitment with stability and security. Their unique package enables Grainger plc to provide housebuilders with tangible added value to utility infrastructure for the first time.”
