Whitecliffe is a flagship project within one of the UK’s first 21st-century garden cities. With its emphasis on design, sustainability, and walkable neighbourhoods, it demands infrastructure that matches its vision. GTC’s long-term stewardship model and future-proof networks support both environmental goals and community wellbeing – laying the foundations for a thriving place to live.
Overcoming Infrastructure Challenges
Delivering utilities across such a large, phased site has presented a range of logistical and technical challenges:
Electricity Supply: To energise the development, GTC installed a 2km cable link to a substation at Ebbsfleet International Station. This involved crossing a bridge and working with Network Rail to access restricted areas. Careful traffic management ensured safe, timely delivery of the connection.
Water and Wastewater Networks: GTC led the design and installation of the clean water and wastewater systems, coordinating with Thames Water to secure suitable connection points. By owning and operating these networks, GTC ensures long-term resilience and service continuity for residents.
Ultrafast Fibre Broadband: Every home at Whitecliffe will benefit from Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) infrastructure, offering speeds of up to 1Gbps. GTC’s open-access fibre network allows residents to choose from a range of internet providers, enhancing affordability and service flexibility.
