EMERGENCY CONTACTS

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

There are currently no planned Rota Load power cuts.

We keep a close eye on the electricity network – and we’ll always do our best to keep you informed.

If Rota Load Disconnections are confirmed, we will contact as many customers as possible by email and text.

You can also stay updated via reliable news channels and the Power Cut 105 website.

WHAT ARE ROTA LOAD DISCONNECTIONS?

Rota Load Disconnections (RLDs) are rare, planned power cuts that the Government may introduce during a national electricity emergency. In the unlikely event that the UK finds itself short of power, the Government can use Rota Load Disconnection to reduce energy demand. Also known as ‘rolling blackouts’, they’re designed to share available power fairly and keep the system safe.

WHY MIGHT THEY HAPPEN?

Rota Load Disconnections are only used as a last resort if the UK doesn’t have enough electricity to meet demand. Right now, this remains very unlikely.

WHEN WOULD THEY HAPPEN?

If needed, Rota load disconnections would take place during peak times (usually between 4pm–7pm).

  • You’d get as much notice as possible, likely by email, text and media updates.
  • The confirmed schedule is published at 6pm the day before on the Power Cut 105 website.

WILL I GET COMPENSATION?

No. Compensation doesn’t apply during national emergency power cuts.

WHAT IS A ROTA BLOCK (ALPHA IDENTIFIER)?

Every home is part of a rota block (A–U), based on where you live. All homes in the same block are switched off at the same time.

You can find your rota block:

On your electricity bill or by entering your postcode on the 105 website.

How long would a power cut last?

Most Rota Load Disconnections last for around 3 hours at a time (usually between 4pm–7pm).
